Parallel Projections

“Why still speak of the real and the virtual, the material and immaterial? Here these categories are not in opposition, or in some metaphysical disagreement, but more in an electroliquid aggregation, enforcing each other, as in a two part adhesive.”
Lars Spuybroek, [1998] Motor Geometry, Architectural Design, Vol 68 No 5/6, p5

Task: Using the axonometrics from last week, develop 3 sets of parallel projections that combine two concepts, one from Carlo Scarpa and one from Alvaro Siza.

[Parallel Projection One]

{Scarpa: Parts of a whole}
{Siza: Seamlessness}
[Parallel Projection Two]

{Scarpa: Parts of a whole}
{Siza: Clear delineation between the inside and out}

[Parallel Projection Three]

{Scarpa: Interlocking as a form of joinery}
{Siza: A form carved out of a single structure}

Independent Study: Take one of those parallel projections and model it, then run it through Lumion and take two screenshots of the model.

I modeled my first axonometric, which is based on the concepts of Seamlessness and Parts of a Whole.

[My Concepts]

Parts of a Whole: The idea that a space can be created and defined through the repetition of particular geometries. Some uses of these geometries could be to intersect, stack and cut out another similar geometry. I have used this concept to create a space that is babushka in style.

Seamlessness: This addresses the way two spaces interact and connect as one. The idea of seamlessness is that the distinction between two spaces is such that each leads into the other with no pause or break in the movement. This can refer to the seamless movement between inside and out or the way in which two spaces react around each other to create a continuous form. I have chosen to develop the latter interpretation.

The concept electroliquid aggregation is the theory of combining two elements so that they become indistinguishable from each other.

My Electroliquid Aggregation:
{New Concept: Seamless Parts of a Whole}
The idea that a few repeated geometries can be seamlessly integrated and create a continuous whole. The line of continuity can span across vertical and/or horizontal plane.

The technological impact that the Blacktown International Sports Park has on the local area is that it is the location for a telephone communication tower. This tower consists of three pod shapes and an electronic control room, and is situated next to the softball pitches next to the M7.

In order for this project to conform to my concept, I have created a space that seamlessly combines a public cafe with the outdoor spaces whilst allowing it to encapsulate a private electric room through which to power the telephone tower. The pods themselves have been integrated into the architecture as a feature of the upper curved pods.
